Records in this series comprise those related to matters regarding buildings and property owned by the Deaconess Community of the Lutheran Church in America (LCA). Subject matter pertains to general matters encountered during the course of maintaining a building or property; matters related to the move of items from the motherhouse in Baltimore, Maryland, to the motherhouse in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania; and matters pertaining to the building of an addition for retired sisters' living quarters on the Gladwyne property. The majority of the records pertain to the building of the retired sister's addition. The series dates from 1965-1973 with the bulk of records dating from 1967-1968. General record types primarily include correspondence. Record types for those records pertaining to the retired sister's addition include correspondence, property deeds, circular letters, news clippings, estimates, contracts, bid proposals, plans and specifications, building dedication programs, invitations, and planning notes. Of note, in addition to the detailed records about the building addition, there is a 1978 inventory and appraisement of furnishings and furniture at the Gladwyne property. This could be used as a historical reference for inquiries into items that were owned by the deaconess community and its predecessors, particularly artwork.
